Nathan N. L.,

Nathan, a passionate jazz musician and educator, enriches Willan Academy with his expertise and enthusiasm. Holding a BA in Jazz Studies from The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music (2019–2024), Nathan specializes in saxophone, clarinet, and jazz improvisation, inspiring students with his dynamic teaching approach.

Since 2024, Nathan has taught elementary and middle school students through The Harmony Program in New York, covering music theory, performance, and diverse genres. His engaging methods foster creativity and a love for music. Additionally, since 2023, he has worked as a house manager and usher at The New School’s venues, showcasing organizational skills by managing concert operations.

From 2016 to 2024, Nathan mentored middle schoolers in the Oakland Summer Jazz program, leading saxophone/clarinet masterclasses, jam sessions, and ensembles while guiding students in improvisation and technique. In 2020–2021, he taught online jazz band classes at Claremont Middle School in Oakland, covering jazz history and theory, adeptly adapting to virtual platforms.Nathan’s creative, hardworking nature and strong leadership shine in organizing and rehearsing diverse groups. As a keen listener, he builds inclusive, collaborative classrooms. His passion for learning keeps his teaching vibrant, and his multiple Outstanding Soloist Awards from the 2019 Reno Jazz Festival highlight his musical excellence.

At Willan Academy, Nathan is dedicated to nurturing students’ technical skills, creativity, and musical appreciation, creating a supportive and inspiring environment.

Nathan teaches private Saxophone, Clarinet, and Piano lessons.
