Stephen T.,
Stephen teaches saxophone, clarinet, piano, and violin at Willan Academy of Music.
A multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, and educator based in New York City, Stephen holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the Boston Conservatory, where he studied contemporary classical performance. He performs regularly with ensembles throughout the city and has premiered and commissioned over 50 works, appearing as a soloist and chamber musician with groups including contraBAND and Audire Symphony.
Beyond performing, Stephen is the founder of Sound Index, a digital educational anthology dedicated to new music for composers and performers, developed in collaboration with musicians from institutions including Stanford, UCLA, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Stephen has taught students of all ages and backgrounds, from preschool through high school, and has experience working with students with disabilities, always tailoring his approach to each individual's goals and needs. His teaching philosophy centers on the whole person: he believes music is most alive when it grows out of real life, and he works to instill curiosity, balance, and confidence that students can carry with them far beyond the lesson room, whether their path leads toward the arts, sciences, athletics, or anywhere in between.
Friends call him Steph, and his students quickly find out why: his lessons feel like a conversation, not a curriculum.
Stephen teaches private Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano lessons.
