Sathvi R.,
Sathvi is a New York–based Indian American violinist, violist, and composer whose artistry bridges Western classical foundations with South Indian Carnatic traditions. Raised in a musical environment influenced by Carnatic music and Tamil cinema, Sathvi balances rigorous classical training with a passion for cross-cultural exploration.
As an active educator at the Yamaha Music Conservatory and D Z Strad, Sathvi teaches students of all ages and backgrounds. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes a strong technical foundation, deep musicianship, and creative engagement, encouraging students to find their own musical voice.
Sathvi holds a Bachelor of Music from the Mannes School of Music, where she studied under Austin Wulliman and Stefan Jackiw, with additional composition studies under Joan La Barbara. Currently based in Jersey City, she continues to perform extensively at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and has been featured as a soloist on WQXR.
Sathvi teaches private violin and viola lessons.
