Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach and lived from 1685 to 1750. Unfortunately, his contemporaries did not celebrate him as a great composer. They only recognized him as a good organist. Fortunately, interest in his work increased during the nineteenth century. People discovered most of his compositions including the Goldberg Variations, the Brandenburg Concertos, the Mass in B minor, and three hundred cantatas among others. These discoveries revealed his technical command, intellectual depth, and artistic beauty when it came to the composition of music. Here are some interesting facts on Johann Sebastian Bach.

He Became an Orphan When He Was 10 Years Old

Unfortunately, his mother died in 1694 and then his father died 8 months later. It was a trying time for Bach, but his older brother helped him as much as he could. In fact, Bach moved in with his older brother because he was too young to stay by himself. He was only 10 years old at the time. His older brother was an organist at the local Church and that is how Bach’s interest in the organ developed.

Fulfilling His Passion Was a Constant Struggle for Him

Bach studied and performed music at the local church where his brother worked. He copied some of the music despite the fact that he had received several warnings not to do so because the paper he used to make the copies was costly. Luckily, his older brother understood his passion for music and therefore, he taught Bach everything he could about music.

Inspiration from the Life of Johann Sebastian Bach

Learning about music because it appeals to you is an excellent idea. Remember, J.S. Bach composed great works such as Cantata BWV 211, popularly referred to as Coffee Cantata, without receiving any critical acclaim for his compositions. He also struggled as he pursued his passion for music. Do not give you when you are facing challenges. Sing even if no one is watching you. Eventually, the world will appreciate your musical talent even if it does so posthumously.
