Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA but recently relocated to New York City, Zac has been writing and playing music for over seventeen years. He is a 2011 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music with degrees in Jazz Composition and Film Scoring, and has received numerous awards including the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards, the 2013 ASCAP Johnny Mandel Prize, the 2009 and 2010 Herb Pomeroy Jazz Composition Awards, and the 2007 Pittsburgh Jazz Society Leadership Award. He has written for short and feature-length films and video games, including Bandai-Namco’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Stories and jazz arrangements of CAPCOM’s Monster Hunter and Okami series.
A multi-talented performer, Zac plays saxophones, flute, clarinet, shakuhachi, and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument). He has had the pleasure of performing in eleven countries with the likes of Anat Cohen, Kirill Gerstein, Mario Frangoulis, Nobuo Uematsu, and Wataru Hokoyama. He regularly writes and performs with his progressive jazz quartet, the Zac Zinger Group, and his Japanese traditional/jazz fusion duet, KAI.
