Sandhya K.,
Sandhya graduated summa cum laude from New York University in spring of 2023 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education on the Piano Performance track. She began her piano studies at age six and went on to study with NYU Artist Faculty member Manuel Laufer.
She has won prizes in international competitions including the International Golden Key Music Festival and the American Protegé International Piano and Strings Competition, and has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Baruch Performing Arts Center. She has a passion for working with children and takes great pleasure in opportunities to share her love for music.
During her time at NYU, she gave piano lessons to elementary school children without access to music education through the organization Musical Mentors Collaborative, and has taught privately in the city. In her student teaching placements, she conducted beginner piano classes for students of all ages and abilities, including customizing a curriculum for high school students with special needs.
In addition to her piano training, Sandhya is a singer. She was a winner of a songwriting competition, in which her original song was selected to be featured in a Carnegie Hall concert. More recently, she was a member of NYU’s Chorale ensemble, and was a Teaching Artist with the NYC creative arts program Confident Voices, in which she led songwriting sessions for children who stutter. Her experiences working with children and adults with a wide range of learning styles and abilities have allowed her to develop a teaching style rooted in empathy, patience, sensitivity and compassion.
