Aya I., 

Aya is a vocalist, pianist and composer. Originally from Japan, Aya moved to NYC in 2013 to pursue a B.F.A in Jazz Vocal Performance. She developed her sound and style by studying with Steve Wilson and Carolyn Leonhart. Aya graduated from The City College of New York under the Kaye Scholarship with Degree Honors Magna Cum Laude. Aya has been performing at numerous music venues in NYC and has also toured in Japan, Taiwan, and France.

While she’s active as a performer and composer, she has a strong passion for teaching. She has more than 5 years of experience in teaching voice and piano to kids and adults. For advanced students, she also teaches music theory, arrangements, and composition.

Her teaching philosophy for children includes encouraging creativity, staying dedicated to practice, and having fun. She likes to encourage her students to express themselves through music while giving them the proper tools such as theory and techniques to stay structured.
