Michi E.,

Michiko “Michi” Egger began playing drums at the age of 5, and soon added piano, guitar, clarinet, and classical voice to her repertoire. She formed her first band at the age of 11 and began working professionally as a guitarist for various musicals, big bands, and jazz ensembles at just 12 years old. At age 14, she began teaching guitar and piano at her own studio. The following year, Michi attended the Guitar Sessions program at Berklee College of Music, where she was selected to audition for a scholarship. She has also studied with one of the nation’s top jazz guitarists, Sheryl Bailey, at The Collective in Manhattan.

As a guitarist, Michi had performed alongside many amazing artists, including co-headling with Betty Who at Milwaukee Pridefest, playing guitar alongside Andra Day at Lincoln Center, opening for guitarist Oz Noy, and sharing the bill with Dominic Chianese (The Sopranos) to name only a few. Michi was personally invited by Dick Boak of Martin & Co. to become a member of Martin & Co.’s Artist Relations Program. She has also appeared on various TV programs including WVIA-TV’s Homegrown Concert series. Michi has written music featured in films such as The Day That She Died and Heroes of Dirt.

Most recently, one of Michi’s long time students performed as Mason/Lawrence in the closing cast of School of Rock on Broadway!
As a teacher, Michi likes to combine the study of music theory and technique, while incorporating handwritten exercises, sight-reading, songwriting, improvisation, and customized lesson plans for each student to help them grow and discover their own sound along the way.
