ANDREW S., Jazz Guitar
Andrew began playing classical guitar at the age of 9, electric guitar at the age of 14, and jazz guitar at the age of 16. He holds a Bachelors degree in Jazz Studies from UNC Greensboro (2011) and a Masters of Music in Jazz Guitar from the Manhattan School of Music (2014). While studying at UNCG, he wrote arrangements for large jazz ensemble which were premiered alongside guest artists including Lee Konitz, Peter Bernstein, and John Ellis. At Manhattan School of Music, Andrew played with the Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Philharmonic, and the Brazilian Combo.
An active performer since 2007, Andrew has performed in 11 states and 2 countries with an innumerable number of jazz and contemporary music groups. In 2014, he performed as a guitarist approximately 50 times in the United States and 13 times in India around Mumbai and Pune as a member of the True School of Music’s Faculty Band. He has studied as a jazz guitarist with a number of internationally renowned musicians including Jonathan Kreisberg, John Ellis, Peter Bernstein, Phil Markowitz, Joey Calderazzo, Joel Frahm, Stephen Riley, Jack Wilkins, Doug Wamble, Chris Rosenberg, Chad Eby, and Steve Haines.
As a music teacher, Andrew has served as the Head of the Guitar Department at the True School of Music in Mumbai and as a faculty member with the MSM Sunday Program, NY Guitar Academy, the MSM Outreach Program, and the Roanoke Jazz Institute. He also substitute teaches for the MSM Precollege.
Andrew currently performs regularly at The Heath (part of Chelsea’s Sleep No More) and substitutes with Mike Sailors’ Lowdown Stompers.
